A Tribute to the Grand Floridian

It was all started with a sponge. Or I should say, sponges. In May of 1991 my papou had plans to travel to Boca Raton in order to attend a trade show where he would display sponges from his business. Realizing the proximity to Walt Disney World, he suggested to my mom that we turn what was originally going to be a work trip into a family vacation. One Birnbaum’s Disney book and a reservation at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa later, and a tradition was born.

Part Of That (Club Level) World

When I look back on my childhood Disney trips I can’t help but reflect upon how lucky I was and how naive I was about the Disney experience. My family went every year and stayed at the Grand Floridian, as that was where my papou (grandfather in Greek) preferred to stay. One year, upon arriving at the resort, we were told that our outer-building room wasn’t ready, and to make up for the inconvenience would we mind staying club level in the main building?
