Finding Disney Magic in Griffith Park

When doing research for a trip my fiancé and I planned to Los Angeles, I purchased a book about Griffith Park. I knew we had plans to do some hikes in the area, and I wanted to see what else the park had to offer, as I had never been to LA before. When flipping through the book, I was delighted to be reminded of the connection between Walt Disney and the park in question—the merry-go-round that inspired the entirety of Disneyland was located at the park! Upon further reading, I found out that in addition to this landmark, the park is also home to Walt Disney’s Carolwood Barn, which only happens to be open the third Sunday of every month. By fate (or maybe a little pixie dust) the day we had planned to spend time in the park just happened to be the 3rd Sunday in March. Let the magic begin!

Review: The Disneyland Hotel

When John agreed to spend a day in Disneyland during our recent visit to southern California, I knew this was my time to fulfill my dream of staying at the Disneyland Hotel. I know, I know, it really doesn't make a ton of financial sense given that the resort property is so small, and it's so easy to stay at another Anaheim hotel for much less money. That being said, as a nerd of Disney history I felt drawn to stay at the original hotel that Walt created, and John, not having any concept of what Disneyland entailed, agreed with my outlandish dream.

A few years ago, my mom suggested we take our family vacation to San Francisco. I wasn’t super excited about the trip—I probably wanted to go to the beach—however I agreed to go with one major caveat: I wanted to visit the Walt Disney Family Museum. As a history teacher and Disney fanatic, I couldn’t wait to dive deeper into the history of the man who created my favorite place on earth. A few years later Megan was able to visit the museum as well, and the two of us agree it is a must do for any Disney fan out there.

The Definitive Pixar Movie Ranking

Why am I ranking all of the Pixar Movies? Well. Five reasons:

  1. I love a list.

  2. I love movies.

  3. I recently read Creativity, Inc. by former Pixar and Disney animation’s Ed Catmull (Highly recommend) so I decided to re-watch all of the Pixar movies.

  4. I’m a BOAPDP (“Boyfriend of a Pixie Dust Pal) who for some reason did not think this was a terrible idea.

  5. We’re in the middle of a quarantine brought on by an international pandemic. What else am I going to do?!
