Review: Ft. Wilderness Cabins

We always love getting a new Disney experience, and on my family’s recent trip to Walt Disney World, we were able to experience a stay at the Ft. Wilderness Cabins for the first time! Ft. Wilderness offers two experiences: true camping BYO tent/RV and glamping with the Ft. Wilderness Cabins. Now, if you know my husband and I, these air conditioned, multi-room cabins are as close to camping as we are gonna get. Excited to share more about our stay and what we loved about this resort.

The Fort Wilderness sign welcomes you back from the ferry.

What I loved about the Fort Wilderness Cabins

  • Space! Especially for a group or a family with little ones, the space offered in the Ft. Wilderness cabins can’t be beat. Each cabin comes equipped with a living space (and pullout couch!), full kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with bunks and a full-sized bed. With a toddler in tow, having a separate sleeping space was ideal for naps and bedtime. We were able to request a pack-n-play from the front desk for our little guy, and it was perfect. In addition to the indoor space, you’ll also find a deck with picnic table, a parking spot for your car if you have one and a grill! I loved our little cabin so much!

  • Proximity to the Magic Kingdom! The MK is a short ferry ride away from Ft. Wilderness. This is ideal always, but especially ideal when you’re coming home for nap time in the middle of the day (for your toddler and/or husband) and especially nice to not have to fight the crowds when you’re coming home after a long park day.

  • Value! I was able to book the cabin using the Disney+ subscriber discount Disney is offering. Seriously, check it out – the prices are amazing! But even at a standard price, you’re getting a lot of bang for your buck at Ft. Wilderness. With the kitchen and grill, along with being able to drive right up to your cabin, you can also save dollars by cooking your meals or driving yourselves to the Parks, if that’s your thing. To make the value even greater, it would be amazing to split with a group of friends or a big family!

  • Activities! There were so many incredible activities offered at the resort – from a wine + wood art workshop to a campfire with Chip and Dale – that I only wished we could have stayed more days to experience them all. There are two pools, carriage rides, playgrounds and more. You could honestly stay busy there without ever going to the parks!

  • Food! You know this is very important to The Pixie Dust Pals. Ft. Wilderness offers several dining options, and while we didn’t get to experience either table service location – Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue and Trail’s End Restaurant – we experienced the quick service P&J’s Southern Takeout and Crockett’s Tavern more than once. Highly recommend timing your return to the resort with enough time to grab a moonshine cocktail from the Crockett’s Tavern walk-up window on the way back to your cabin.

What you should know

  • Spread out! The resort itself is expansive, and you’ll likely need to catch one of the resort line buses to get from place to place unless you also want to add a hike to your wilderness experience. You can rent golf carts to get around the resort, but unfortunately they were all reserved during our stay. Also, I can’t safely drive a golf cart.

  • Getting to the other parks takes time! While getting to the Magic Kingdom couldn’t be easier, we found getting to the other three parks a little more challenging. You’ll likely have to catch a resort line bus to the Outpost Depot and then wait for the bus to your desired park. We really only ran into an issue after returning from Epcot in the evening when we waited quite some time at the Outpost Depot for the bus line we needed to get back to our cabin. Just something you’d want to plan ahead for in terms of timing.

All in all, Fort Wilderness was an incredible place to stay, and I would definitely stay again. Have you ever stayed at Fort Wilderness? Would you?
