Lightning Bolt Baby Shower

Life in the time of COVID means many fun things have had to be canceled or postponed, including my dear friends Caity and Jason’s baby shower. Along with my Madison gal pals, we schemed to stupefy these HP-loving parents to be with a Harry Potter themed, socially distant celebration. Putting these magical details together was as easy giving your wand a swish and flick so we’re sharing them today!

We chose my backyard for the setting, with ample space on the deck for all couples to be six feet away. With the table in the center with food, people could take turns grabbing snacks. We put together our menu and used this cute printable for the table cards.

Menu:

  • Ollivander’s Wands – pretzel sticks in individual cups for easy grabbing

  • S’more-ting Hat Cakes – you can use this recipe or you can do what I did and use a chocolate cake mix, topped with chocolate icing, graham cracker crumbs and marshmallows I popped in the broiler for a minute. Cupcake toppers here!

  • Trolley Cart – our friends put together some delightfully fun sweets to represent our “Trolley Cart”

  • Rock Cakes – Hagrid’s contribution to the party with some tasty scones (that were not hard as rocks)

  • Butterbeer – I used the recipe here

  • It’s mimOsa, not mimosA

Decor

  • Welcome Baby Muggle Banner – quick order from Amazon

  • Diaper Cake – believe it or not this was my first diaper cake! I used this tutorial here and the following decorative accents:

    • Baby Owl for topper

    • Mischief Managed ribbon – the ribbon I found on Etsy is currently sold out, but here is a similar option

    • Hogwarts Crest printable

  • Mom and Dad buttons – our insanely talented friends made these free hand, but you could also use this tutorial and print with the HP font!

  • Scourgify – if you’re going to have to disinfect, at least add a little magic! I wrapped our disinfectant wipes with red paper and a little spell
