Happily Ever After

You just got engaged and are ready to reach out and find your happily ever after! If you, like me, were looking to add some Disney touches to your wedding day, look no further for some ideas to help celebrate the beginning of your fairy tale.

Apparel

Although my wedding dress wasn’t specifically anything Disney branded, I would be lying if I said I didn’t keep my favorite princess Belle in the back of my mind. I knew I wanted an A-Line dress to emphasize my waist but wanted to avoid an all out ballgown since I knew I wanted freedom to dance later in the evening.

When I found these shoes, I knew I had not only found my “something blue,” but also a nod to everyone’s late night party princess–Cinderella! In order to complete the homage a friend added a decal to the bottom, which also served as a nod to my Greek heritage.

This purse from Francescas was one of the first purchases I made (thank you, Instagram targeted ads). Although I am under no illusions that marriage=happily ever after, I still used this moniker as a common theme throughout our day. It was also nice to have a dedicated space for my cell phone, lip color, and anything else I wanted to be able to quickly locate throughout the day!

Decor

This was the area where I knew I wanted subtle Disney touches without being overwhelmingly Disney. One area where I knew we could seamlessly integrate our love for Disney and movies was by naming each table after a Disney movie and including a favorite quote from each film we featured. Thanks to the magic of Canva (and several…and I mean several trips to Walgreens) we were able to make this vision come true!

One of the few disagreements John and I had regarding our wedding day was what to have as a cake topper. He had his heart set on custom-bobbleheads, while I wanted something a little more delicate. In the end we compromised–he still got his bobble heads as decor near our guest book, and I got my beautiful laser cut wood “Happily Ever After” sign to top our incredible cake (if you are anywhere near STL and looking for a bakery, I CANNOT recommend La Patisserie Chouquette enough, AND they just got nominated for a James Beard award!)

Another area where I struggled was what to do for our card box. I must have looked up every single option Etsy had to offer, and even considered buying the giant EPCOT cookie jar from shopDisney. However it was Megan who ultimately landed on the prize idea…what if we had a recreation of one of the iconic Walt Disney World trash cans? Luckily, because you can literally find anything on the internet, I found a vendor on Etsy who makes custom miniature Walt Disney World trash cans and used that as our card box. Who says they are just good for a temporary table during Food and Wine!

Miscellaneous

When it came to choosing a song for us to walk into our reception, we really struggled. We have so many songs we love, but ultimately the song that I felt brought the right amount of magic and joy to the moment was “Happily Ever After” as performed by Jordan Fisher and ???. Luckily, John agreed and it helped perfectly encapsulate the joy we felt that moment as we walked in to greet all of our family and friends.

On our most recent trip to Walt Disney World I made sure to snag two Happily Ever After buttons so that we could grab a few photos with them. While I never felt the need to have a wedding AT Walt Disney World, I knew I wanted to bring this aspect of Walt Disney World to St. Louis!

And finally, if you, like me, are an incredibly messy eater, may I suggest stocking up on a Walt Disney World poncho to wear over your dress while eating dinner? The stunning silhouette will perfectly complement that red sauce pasta you chose for your dinner menu while keeping your wedding dress safe until all the photos have been taken. Happy Planning!
