Why We Love Port Orleans French Quarter

Truly I could begin and end this post about why we love Port Orleans French Quarter with one word: beignets. However, there are many reasons why this resort has become our favorite beyond access to those magical clouds of fried dough! Port Orleans offers two resorts: Riverside, meant to evoke the spirit of the bayou and French Quarter, which brings a little Mardi Gras magic to your stay. We have recently fallen in love in the French Quarter resort, and here is why:

  • The value! As a moderate resort, prices at Port Orleans French Quarter are a smidge more expensive than your value resorts, i.e. Art of Animation, Pop Century, the All Star resorts. However, when we’ve crunched the numbers, the price difference is not that great, and the amenities and benefits of Port Orleans certainly makes it worth it! On our most recent trip, the price difference between Art of Animation and Port Orleans was less than $75 – though of course prices vary at different times throughout the year.

  • The ambiance! At Port Orleans French Quarter, you are transported to New Orleans strolling through stately neighborhoods of brightly colored homes and tree-lined streets as you make your way back to your room. It’s the perfect break from the hustle and bustle of the parks.

  • The food! In addition to the beignets now found at the Scat Cat’s Club Cafe, the quick service options at Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory are amazing. You can read our full review here, but the Po Boys alone are reason to go.

  • The convenience! Though the Port Orleans French Quarter and Riverside resorts do share some fun amenities, each resort has its own bus which cuts down on travel time to and from the parks. Direct bus transportation is an important box to check on our list when choosing a place to stay!

  • The fun! In true Nola style, you’ll also find fun at French Quarter! You can certainly let the good times roll at the Scat Cat’s Club – either in the lounge listening to live jazz with a Hurricane in hand or in the cafe with your face buried in beignets. You can also enjoy a jog along the river walk, or on Sundays, the resort offers a “Beignet Dash” fun run. For a small fee, participants get a Mardi Gras medal and beignets!

  • Did we mention the beignets?
