Boo to You! Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

Even though it's only September, it's been Halloween at the Magic Kingdom since August! This year the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party has a plethora of tricks and treats that both first time attendees and annual visitors can enjoy. Let’s boo this!

Oogie Boogie Outfits

This year we decided to celebrate adventure with Up themed costumes. I went as Kevin, and my friends Kaylee and Krysta went as Carl and Russell! These costumes were so much fun to put together. Who doesn't love the chance to dress up at the Magic Kingdom!

Tricks

Make sure to grab an event map as you walk into the park. This will indicate all of the special Halloween overlays that make attending the party super special. This year there were overlays on Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Mad Tea Party, and Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor. Unfortunately Pirates was down for most of the night so we didn't get a chance to experience it. However riding Space Mountain in the dark is truly a terrifying experience and not to be missed! The Tea Party overlay wasn't anything special; it mostly involved extra lights and spooky music.

Also exclusive to the party is characters who you normally wouldn't see. While we didn't stop to take any photos characters such as Jane, Tarzan, and Terk were available for fun photos in Adventureland. Additionally you can meet your favorite classic characters in their Halloween best! You can also see a spooky performance by zombie Dapper Dan's throughout Frontierland.

While we didn't get a chance to watch the parade this year (we sacrificed for Space Mountain time) we definitely suggest watching the 11:15 parade over the 9:15. An ideal location to watch the proceedings is from Liberty Square near the Hall of Presidents. Because the parade starts in Frontierland you’ll get it right away but also be in a place to sneak away to experience more fun before the party ends!

Also new this year to the party was “Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular.” While I loved Hallowishes, I enjoyed this show as well (it’s hard for me not to love anything that combines the castle and fireworks). Jack Skellington narrates this not so scary production featuring all your favorite villains and Disney songs.

However, my favorite part of the entire evening is the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular. This show hasn’t changed much over the past few years, but it is so reliably enjoyable it doesn’t need to! The parade of Disney villains is a hoot, but the true stars are the Sanderson Sisters themselves. It is so much fun to hear them sing, “I Put a Spell on You” in front of the castle. We ended our night with the midnight show, which was a perfect way to end our boo-tiful evening.

Treats

There are a TON of exclusive goodies available at each party. While our focus was on getting in as much ride time as possible, here’s a small breakdown of what we did experience.

  • Treat Trails: There are SO many trick or treat trails throughout the park. You can recognize a treat trail by the giant orange blow up Mickey faces marking their start. By the end of the night we had four full bags of candy (which seems like a normal amount for three 30-year-old women). While we didn’t need to utilize them there are also special allergy friendly treat centers so that everyone can participate in the fun.

  • Hades Nachos: Available at Pecos Bill, these nachos were smothered in chicken and buffalo sauce. I was expecting them to be much spicier with a name like “Hades Nachos” than they actually were, which was a fairly basic chicken nachos dish. We also got the “Billy’s Worms and Dirt” dessert which featured chocolate pudding covered in gluten-friendly chocolate cake crumbs with gummy worms and a chocolate “Billy” from Hocus Pocus.

  • Looking for something a little more classic? All of your favorite desserts have a Halloween makeover including the rice krispy treats, caramel apples, and cake pops. Visit the Confectionary on Main Street to satisfy your sweet tooth.
