Young, Scrappy and Hungry: Hamilton Watch Party

The story of tonight is that Hamilton: An American Musical premieres on Disney+ this Friday, July 3. This offers the opportunity for everyone (or at least those with a Disney+ account) to watch the Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning stage show. For this historic broadcast, we have put together a menu that would even impress King George III. If you’re feeling helpless at how to get started, we’ve linked easy recipes below and have also included a free printable for you to take your party details to the next level!

  • World Turned Cherry Upside Down Cake
(Note: the recipe calls for baking for 40-45 minutes; I ended up needing about 50 minutes. You’ll notice the cake start to brown before then; cover with foil if this starts to happen to avoid burning! Additionally if you don’t have a cherry pitter, never fear; you can use a chopstick or a plastic straw to achieve the same effect!)

Drinks

We also made a spin on our favorite cocktail, the French 75, that is perfect for your #Hamilfilm watch party. Raise a glass to an American 76!

American 76 Cocktail

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Gin

  • 3/4 oz Cherry Simple Syrup (1/2 cup cherries, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup sugar)

    • Regular simple syrup will also do!

  • 1 oz Lemon Juice

  • Sparkling wine (find a California sparkling wine to make it extra American!)

  • Cherries and Lemons for Garnish

First, make your cherry simple syrup. Combine simple syrup ingredients in a small sauce pan and place over medium high heat. Simmer for 10 minutes, carefully watching to not let it boil. The cherries will likely blister in the process, but take the back of a fork or potato masher to smash them a bit. Allow to cool and pour through mesh strainer. Combine gin, simple syrup and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake it like you’re not throwing away your shot. Pour into champagne flute and top with your desired amount of bubbly. Garnish with lemons and cherries. Enjoy!
