Recipe: Hidden Mickey Cupcakes

If you miss hunting for Hidden Mickeys in the Parks, hunt for them in your cupcakes instead! We created a fun and easy recipe inspired by the Twice Upon A Cupcakes that have a Hidden Mickey inside, which you’ll currently find at the Main Street Bakery in Walt Disney World.

After reading the Disney Food Blog review, they surmised the Hidden Mickey was made of a red velvet cake pop, so I decided to try making Mickey out of Oreo balls because they’re easy – and have you had them – so delicious!

Ingredients

  • One package (36) Oreos or like chocolate sandwich cookie (I used Goodie Girl for gluten free)

  • One 8 oz package of cream cheese, softened

  • Your favorite yellow/vanilla cake mix and needed ingredients

  • Icing

  • Sprinkles

That’s it!

Directions

Start by making your Mickey Oreo balls. Crush your package of Oreos – you can do this in a food processor or place the Oreos in a sealed Ziploc bag and roll with a rolling pin. Mix your crushed Oreos and softened cream cheese until well blended.

Then you’ll want to roll your Oreo mixture into small balls for Mickey’s face and even smaller balls for his ears. I used a cookie dough scoop for consistency and then divided each scoop into fourths. 1/4 of my cookie dough scoop made a good size for Mickey’s face and then for the ears, I divided 1/4 of the original scoop into two pieces. So each cookie dough scoop should make two faces and four ears: two full Mickeys. Gently smoosh (very technical term) your ears onto the the larger ball and lay flat on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Once you’ve made all of the Oreo ball Mickeys, pop them in the freezer for about 15 minutes while you mix up the cupcake batter, according to your mix instructions.

Place festive cupcake liners in your cupcake pan. Remove your Oreo Mickeys from the freezer. Carefully place an Oreo Mickey standing upright in the center of the cupcake liner and pour your cupcake batter around it, just enough batter to submerge Mickey. Pay attention to which direction your Mickeys face, which will come in handy for your reveal when you cut them in half. Repeat until all cupcakes are filled. Bake according to the instructions on your mix and allow cupcakes to cool.

Once your cupcakes are cool, ice and decorate to your heart’s content. Carefully cut across the center to reveal your Hidden Mickey, paying attention to which way the Mickey is facing so you cut across the ears! Just like magic!
