Review: Oga's Cantina at Galaxy's Edge
Once upon a time, a 30-year-old woman bought a park ticket so she could spend approximately two hours at Galaxy’s Edge while she waited for the rest of her friends to arrive in Orlando. The woman excitedly made a reservation for one at Oga’s Cantina and looked forward to experiencing the array of drink options available. When the day arrived the woman dashed from her hotel to make her reservation…only to find out that she had forgotten her wallet back at the hotel upon arriving to the park. However that woman’s trip (spoiler alert: that woman was me) did not go to waste and was totally worth the experience.
Upon arriving in Galaxy’s Edge you are completely transported to not just another world, but another planet! While it is crucial to make a reservation ahead of time for Oga’s Cantina, if you somehow end up without one I would suggest trying to get in about an hour before the park closes; when I was there they were letting in small parties with only about a 15 minute wait who didn’t have a reservation!
When you arrive at Oga’s you are asked to check in with a cast member outside the door. Then, after a short wait you are escorted through two sliding doors. This detail is crucial, because if you are trying to catch a glimpse inside you are out of luck. This entrance way is designed for maximum impact for when you do get to go inside, as it is a drastic shift in tone from the outside world.
Upon entering the cantina you are guided to your seat, which may include standing at the bar. Once inside you are automatically transported to the Star Wars universe through the music and theming of the interior. The ambiance is one of pure fun; you can’t hep but smile when looking around this energetic space.
Because I had forgotten my wallet I was only able to order from the non-alcoholic side of the menu. I got the Carbon Freeze, which I would definitely recommend. It’s a combination of Powerade and fruit juices, but what makes it out of this world are the green apple popping pearls. It was weird, but it was good.
Even though I forgot my wallet, the Cantina is a must-see for any Star Wars fan. For those of you who have visited Trader Sam’s the vibe is very similar. There are drinking songs and environmental flairs that truly pull you into the world. I can’t wait to return so that I can try out more of what this watering hole has to offer.
